Hotel Busby in Nice: a history dating back over a century

The Hôtel Busby dates back to the Belle Époque, during the tourist boom on the Côte d’Azur, the jewel in the crown of southern France. During this period, wealthy British families settled in the region and brought their riches with them. Sir Busby, a relatively well-off British citizen who lived in Nice, had ambitions to promote the city beyond France. His aim was to offer the English a comfortable and peaceful place in which to rest. Hotel Busby was born of this ambition . It opened its doors in 1905 in downtown Nice, a stone’s throw from the Promenade des Anglais.

In 1930, the hotel was taken over by the Tronconi family, a family of hoteliers from Nice. It is currently managed by Eric Tronconi, who aims to perpetuate the family tradition of hospitality, while breathing new life into it through freshness and modernism. Be that as it may, the 3-star Hôtel Busby remains the most “British” of Nice’s hotels, thanks in no small part to its proximity to the Promenade des Anglais and the Grande Bleue.
